Multimedia Packages
Candidly speaking, I haven’t specifically coded any multimedia packages for the website. However, I’ve helped to conceptualize the design for them, edit both the design and content, and work to write copy and create graphics for the packages themselves. Multimedia packages are about drawing readers attention to pieces of the story they might not otherwise see, and as a modern day student journalist, I’ve worked to accentuate elements of both my work and others in digital design.
The 2024 election package
In the 20 year history of the ODYSSEY, this is the most ambitious, innovative multimedia package we have ever published. Working on the package, I gave our Digital Editor Lea D’Angelo and Digital Staffer Jesse Dantzler several rounds of feedback on the interface and design concept, going through the package line by line with an eye for design and technical issues. Furthermore, I contributed to the package as far as content, as well. I wrote an editorial and news story featured in the package, while also photographing the two candidates for District Attorney for Q&A’s written in the package.
After Apalachee
Like the election package, this format – using Adobe Express rather than WordPress – was unique. Once again, I provided the entirety of the content – writing the story, taking the photographs, creating the timelines, etc. – but the package was coded and organized by D’Angelo. I gave her three rounds of edits on the design, focusing on readability and storytelling, ensuring the package enhanced, rather than distracted from, the readers’ experience.
The 57th Classic City Championship
Every year, one of the biggest staff productions of the year is the Classic City Championship package, where the staff previews the rivalry football game. As Sports Editor and Lead Copy Editor, I helped organize the packages, creating a spreadsheet with assignments and links for editing. I also went through the package on WordPress to look for any typos or errors. Furthermore, I contributed to these packages with photos and stories on multiple occasions, chipping in to lead the package from the front.
